Design

A design for life

Design

Sticky-backed plastic

We are passionate about all aspects of design. We don’t just use crayons in our creative department - we are equally skilled using pens, pencils, charcoal, chalk, felt-tips, ink and quill, spray paint, glitter, sequins, styrofoam beads, feathers, rhinestones, elastic bands, cardboard, scissors, Play-Doh, paper clips, wireframes, scanners, digital photography, After Effects, Photoshop, Flash and anything else we can get our hands on.

Integrated design

One of our founding principles is the concept of ‘Integrated Design’. The practical result of this principle is a consideration of all components of a project as part of an organic entity. We create a ‘Design DNA’ template for each project, and roll that template out across all of its constituent parts so that there is a ‘family resemblance’ throughout, consolidating your brand.

Ego design detail

To achieve this effect, we insist on a close collaboration between our design and development departments. We produce detailed project workflow diagrams (wireframes) which our designers and developers analyse in the earliest stage of a project to assess the intricacies of how an piece of functionality will look as well as behave.

These elements are thoroughly worked out in terms of user experience and how they will fit into the project as a whole. The result is that when we deliver a product, we deliver a single, unified experience from top to bottom that looks great and behaves seamlessly.

Form follows function?

Well, no – not for us. Many agencies suffer from a jarring disconnect between design and development, leading to incongruous ‘form follows function’ products (un-styled buttons, data tables, form elements, etc.). This leads to an awkward user experience and a negative perception of your brand.

We actively encourage our designers to get stuck into the inner workings of the development process, so that they have a greater understanding of the project life cycle and therefore create more intuitive and beautiful end user experiences which, after all, is what delivering a product is all about.
